Discovering Klangphonics: A Fresh Take on Techno Music

Last week, I went to a concert in Brooklyn to see Klangphonics, a German "human techno" group.
I first discovered them on Instagram through someone’s repost, and their organic approach to techno music immediately caught my attention. Unlike traditional techno, which is usually created with DJs and mixers, Klangphonics actually play live instruments—bass guitar, drums, and more.
One of the things I love about their music is how they incorporate everyday sounds. On Instagram, they’ve turned washing machines, sewing machines, dryers, and even water sprays into part of their beats, layering real drum rhythms and basslines to create a unique EDM experience. I’m not usually an EDM listener—before this, I had only been to one EDM concert—but their use of organic sounds made it really enjoyable for me.
Music has always been a big part of my life. Back in college, I was part of a music circle where I played electric guitar and bass, and I still love rock music. So watching Klangphonics perform live, especially their drummer, was fascinating. Seeing musicians actually play instead of just mixing tracks made their sound feel more alive and dynamic.
I think they’re on their way to becoming a big name, and if you ever get the chance, I highly recommend checking them out! Even if you’re not usually into EDM, their mix of electronic and live instrumentation might surprise you.
